Thiruvananthapuram, Poovar and Kovalam Tour Itinerary

Day 1
Thiruvanathapuram Day Trip
One Day City Trip - Kuthiramalika, Museum, Zoo, Planetarium (Optional), Shangumughom or Kovalam, Poovar or Veli, Azhimala and few unexplored places in Trivandrum city limits as per guest choice.

TRIP TVM 01 - Trip starts at 08:30 Hrs and end by 18:30 Hrs which covers Kuthiramalika - Napier Museum - Zoo - After Lunch proceed to Poovar and have a boat ride followed by Azhimala Shiva Temple and visit Kovalam Beach.

*Kuthiramalika - A total of 122 smiling wooden horses await all who visit ‘Kuthiramalika’, which means “palace of horses”. Formally known as Kuthiramalika Palace Museum or Puthenmalika Palace Museum, it is a pristine two-storied palace near the Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple in Thiruvananthapuram. Built by Swathi Thirunal Balarama Varma, who was Maharaja of the Kingdom of Travancore in British India, it takes one back to the 1840s when it was first constructed.
It is a great example of the Kerala school of architecture and is made from teakwood, rosewood, marble, and granite. The museum houses idols and sculptures made from white marble, Kathakali figures, Belgian mirrors and paintings. The flourishing spice trade between Kerala and the world made it possible to obtain those items.

*The Napier Museum - is an art and natural history museum situated in Thiruvananthapuram, India. The Museum is grounds to the Trivandrum Zoo, one of the oldest zoological gardens in India. The zoo was established in 1857 over 55 acres of land.

*Poovar Boating - Boating through the mangroves is a different experience and have a visit to the sandy beach at Poovar.

*Azimala Shiva Temple - The temple is noted for its 58-ft-tall statue of Lord Shiva in the Gangadhareswara form, all made in concrete. The massive structure with Shiva's hair flowing in the wind and holding Goddess Ganga has a charm of its own and lends a magnificent appeal to the temple.

*Kovalam Beach - Kovalam is an internationally renowned beach with three adjacent crescent beaches. It has been a favourite haunt of tourists since the 1930s. A massive rocky promontory on the beach has created a beautiful bay of calm waters ideal for sea bathing. The leisure options at this beach are plenty and diverse.

TRIP TVM 02 - Ponmudi Hill Station - Trip starts at 07:30 Hrs and end by 18:30 Hrs
'Golden Peak' and for good reason, is a lovely hill station around 60 kilometers from the city. Located at about 915 ft above the sea level, Ponmudi is home to many beautiful mountain flowers, exotic butterflies, springs and rivulets. A large amount of rare flora and fauna can be seen here including mountain flowers, wild orchids and exotic butterflies. The temperature is equable throughout the year and the three-hour drive from the city is justified once the valley comes into view. One can always stop over at the breathtaking Kallar River on the way, which flows parallel to the road in the opposite direction, with the picturesque Meenmutty Waterfalls only a little distance ahead. It has multiple Trekking trails with prior booking.

TRIP TVM 03 - Varkkala Beach & Jadayu Rock - Trip starts at 07:30 Hrs and end by 18:30 Hrs

Varkkala - Varkala is the only region in southern Kerala where cliffs are found adjacent to the Arabian Sea. These Cenozoic sedimentary formation cliffs are a unique geological feature on the otherwise flat Kerala coast, and are known among geologists as Varkala Formation. It is the only place in Kerala where the hills come close to the sea. The uniqueness of the place is the merging of cliffs with the Arabian Sea. Varkala Beach is a popular beach where you can enjoy various water sports activities such as para-sailing and paragliding.

Jatayu Rock - The world’s largest bird sculpture and within it a rock theme park for adventure enthusiasts is what today pays tribute to the mythical bird from the Indian epic Ramayana – Jatayu. The Jatayu Adventure Center offers the largest adventure park within a natural terrain. Paintball, valley crossing, bouldering, zip line, trekking, archery, rappelling, jumaring and wall climbing are among the myriad activities available here. The climbing activities are designed around the natural rock formations on the hillside. While you are relishing the adrenaline rush the park offers you make sure you explore the multi cuisines at the food court with a panoramic view and the age-old Siddha Cave Healing Center as well for a complete, wholesome experience.
